A mid-sized, high-powered recruiting firm on the West Coast. Their practice focuses primarily on software engineering and marketing executive hires.

Business Imperative

This firm differentiates itself in several ways – in the energy of its principals, the speed of their hires, the network of technical contacts – and with software built by Augmentum that allows the firm to act as a virtual recruiting staff for their clients. The firm had been using third-party software, but could not get their required features onto the product roadmap quickly enough. They knew their processes very well, and understood that automating their proprietary recruiting methods would allow them to compete with larger firms and continue to grow quickly without losing that intimate touch. However, the company did not have or need a large IT staff. Given that they focused on high level searches in the Engineering management domain, they were very familiar with the track record of the Augmentum management and believed we could work with them in the right way to deliver their custom application. In particular, the advanced product management Augmentum provides allowed them to conceptualize and design the requirements without having to adhere to unnecessarily heavyweight processes.

Engagement

Augmentum worked directly with the founders of the company to develop the requirements, design, and implementation for their custom software package. Augmentum will complete the web-based, business process focused product first phase on an Open Source stack, as promised, 7 months from first discussion to hosted solution.

A late-stage startup provider of hosted, web-based, event-management solutions. The customer has one of the largest market shares in online corporate event management.

Business Imperative

The company’s business environment is extremely dynamic, due to M & A activity in the market. To prevail, the company needed to simultaneously replace its aging, 4-year old application with a modern Java/J2EE based application that incorporated the leading open-source technologies, integrate these technologies with those of another company that it had recently merged with, and provide functional enhancements to their customers. The company relied on Augmentum’s expertise in developing the new application because the Augmentum architects had unusually deep experience in web application development, enterprise architecture, and scalability. The company chose to focus their own resources on business development and product management.

Engagement

Augmentum worked directly with product management and architects in the company to understand the requirements for their next-generation application, and proposed an architecture that was maintainable, scalable and extensible. We then implemented that architecture using best-of-breed, open-source technologies that allowed us to quickly produce a mature application that has replaced the company’s old infrastructure in 12 months. This was accomplished using a team of leading architects, along with developers at Augmentum’s offshore facilities, forming the virtual engineering team for our customer.
